The Vascular Disease Foundation is advocating that testing for peripheral arterial disease (PAD) be more readily available. We have recently sent two letters to Medicare recommending that the ankle-brachial index (ABI) be part of the cardiovascular screening portion of a physical examination. This would help identify PAD earlier and treatment could be initiated more quickly, saving pain and death. We hope our message makes a difference!
